Be Well Beautiful People Hosts All-Inclusive Day Retreat in Detroit to Support Rest and Healing During BIPOC Mental Health Month

Detroit, MI - June 20,2025 - In recognition of BIPOC Mental Health Month, Be Well Beautiful People is hosting a day retreat at Mama Akua Community House on Saturday, July 12, for BIPOC men, women, and nonbinary individuals. This all-inclusive experience centers rest, self-care, and collective healing offering a day of nourishment and connection in the heart of Detroit.

Observed every July, BIPOC Mental Health Month raises awareness about the mental health challenges BIPOC communities face due to systemic racism, intergenerational trauma, and limited access to culturally relevant care. This retreat is a direct response, creating space for shared care and self-reflection through practices rooted in lived experience and backed by research to support individuals in accessing optimal wellbeing.

The retreat is guided by Demarra West, MA, LPC, PCC, RYT, a licensed therapist, yoga/meditation/breathwork/Reiki teacher, and founder of Be Well Beautiful People which focuses on accessible healing and liberation support for the communities who need it the most.

“This retreat reflects the world we’re working to build, one where we all get to be well, no matter where we come from or what we’ve been through," says West. "It’s about giving those most impacted by harm access to real healing support. When we combine self-healing practices, abundance mindset, and community, we create the optimal conditions for people to rise in every area of their lives."

Up to full needs based scholarships are available for people in the Detroit community and application is through bewellbeautifulpeople.org/scholarship.

This retreat is held in partnership with Mama Akua Community House and Michigan State University Extension. Organizations and individuals interested in sponsoring or collaborating to expand access to this retreat or other programming, can learn more here or email us at info@bewellbeautifulpeople.org.
