Love Anchors When Fear Shows Up

This December marks two years since Me Too: A Therapist’s Journey to Heal, Find Liberation, and Joy was published. I still remember the palpable fear I felt, which continues to surface from time to time even today - knowing that I placed the most deeply parts of myself into the world for others to hold.
What became clear to me then is that fearlessness is a fallacy, but love helps you take action in spite of fear.
Choosing love over fear doesn’t mean fear disappears. It became the steady force that kept me rooted in purpose, allowing me to continue even as doubt moved alongside me, making it possible to move forward without pretending I was unafraid.
In fact, the book brought pushback, relationships shifted, and there were periods of distance and strain within my own family. Although love did not spare me from pain, it became the anchor that gave me the strength to remain aligned and to keep moving without abandoning myself when the consequences felt heavy.
And still, love opens doors fear never could, in ways only love has the capacity to hold. I am reminded of this through moments like hearing from someone recently who shared that after years of therapy, and reading countless books about trauma, my book offered her a sense of closure like nothing else had.
When love sits at the center of it all, it becomes the anchor that guides your choices, grounds your actions, and keeps you connected to something larger than yourself, whether you call it God, source, or the universe. Fear may still appear, but love shapes how you respond, helping you move forward with openness, integrity, and a steady heart.
I'm excited to share that my new book, Love Will Liberate, explores this and so many other relevant themes that help us let love in. It launches on January 31 and a free chapter is currently available here. You can support this work, and other accessible wellbeing services, by donating to Be Well Beautiful People here. Additionally if you could use some support opening your heart, feel free to explore therapy or coaching with me here.
With immense love, Demarra West
